According to the article, the dogs were able to identify 71 out 100 cancerous samples correctly. The article also states that there is a very low percentage of false positives, and the results were actually even more accurate than some current methods, such as CT scans.

3 most common dog-related allergies - NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports - KOTV.com |

According to a story By Dr. Jessica Vogelsang for Tulsa's Channel 6, allergies are one of the leading causes of vet visits, by pet owners. She cites flea, environmental and food allergies as the three most common allergies that dogs experience.

Vogelsang states that environmental allergies are the most common, but can sometimes be treated with topical ointments. At Kelly's Dazzle Dog Dog Grooming Spa, we offer several hypoallergenic solutions for your dog.

Flea allergies require the use a topical or oral flea treatment, available from your local veterinarian or dog grooming spa, to remove the fleas. According to Dr. Vogelsang, most dogs are highly allergic to fleas, and have a much more intense reaction to their saliva than the average human.

Food allergies tend to be difficult to diagnose, as they can manifest themselves in many different ways, and need to be diagnosed by means of an elimination diet.

Mats and Tangles

If you have a dog with longer hair, you are sure to have run into the dreaded mats and tangles that can happen if your pup goes a little too long between groomings. In the case of mats, the best defense is a good offense, regularly brush your dogs hair to stop it from matting or tangling. Just a few minutes a week can save you and your dog the headache of dealing with matted hair. Also, clean hair is much easier to brush out than dirty hair, so regular baths can help your dog avoid matting.

However, if it comes down to it and your dog's hair gets matted, don't panic, there are plenty of easy and painless ways to get their coat looking better.

  • Try laying your dog down at your feet or across your lap.
  • Use a metal toothed comb to slowly tease out the knots. Go gently and slowly.
  • Bear in mind this might be a long process as your dog might get fed up with being combed for a long period of time.
  • If there are several bad mats, choose one area at a time and work in sections of your dog's coat.
  • Begin to pull the mats apart with your fingers to loosen up the tangles and makes it easier to comb
Once you're done, give your dog a treat and maybe a walk. Make the process of grooming something your dog will look forward too.

Welcome to Our New Blog! Kelly's Dazzle Dog Grooming Spa Now Open!

Hello, Everyone!

My name is Kelly McKinney and I am the new owner of Dazzle Dog Grooming Spa at 3711C S. Harvard in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born and raised in Tulsa I started my grooming career 25 years ago working with my mother, who along with one of my sisters now owns a grooming shop in Tulsa, as well. I have another sister who works in a nearby town as a veterinarians assistant. Yes, we come from a long line of animal lovers!

I have 2 grown children and 2 beautiful grandchildren with one on the way. My daughter, Jessyca, works in the shop along beside me; she is a very talented groomer but is our receptionist for now due to the "one on the way." My son lives in a nearby town with his beautiful wife and daughter.

One of my career accomplishments I am most proud of is my extensive hand-scissoring experience. In today’s busy world there aren’t many groomers that have the ability or experience to hand-scissor.

My staff includes some new faces and some familiar ones. Kimberly has stayed on and I’m very thankful, she is an excellent groomer who shows great potential in hand-scissoring and has an unequivocal love for animals. You may also recognize another familiar face in the bunch, Jecca has been with the shop for about 2 years and is one of the best dog-bathers I’ve ever known and it is quite evident in the work that she does. One of the newer faces to you may be Gail. I have known Gail for years and you may recognize her also. She has been in the animal industry for a number of years.

I have much love and respect for the former owner Mary Ann as well as I’m sure you do. And I am very appreciative for the trust you all have so willingly given to me for the love and care of your family member. If there is EVER the tiniest thing you would like to discuss to ensure the best groom your dog has ever had, please do not hesitate to contact me.
